Covid-19 concerns left The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) frantic to reschedule after the women’s world hockey championship was postponed. Rene Fasel, IIHF chief said the decision to postpone the event was made last minute by health officials in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Teams were set to start traveling to the event over the course of the next two days. Teams would be required to quarantine to comply with Canada’s foreign travelers regulations.
Hockey Canada CEO Tom Renney says that a lot of this decision is further out of their control than they would like. The event was already pushed back one month after recommendations from health officials.
Fasel says right now, their attention is being put towards trying to reschedule the event, either in Nova Scotia, somewhere else in Canada, or in another host country if needed. Fasel is doing everything possible to keep the event in Nova Scotia with it being held in August.
