Elk River man sentenced for child pornography

41 year old John Edwin Kuhnel of Elk River has been sentenced to 204 months in prison for possession of child pornography.

United States Attorney Erica MacDonald announced the sentencing today and was quoted saying “Despite the many challenges this past year has presented, my office has not lost sight of our commitment to bringing child predators to justice. Prosecuting cases involving child exploitation remains a top priority”.

Kuhnel was already being supervised for a previous sexual conduct charge when he was then found with more than 33,000 images and videos of child pornography. The FBI were the ones who completed the investigation.

John Kuhnel is being charged with nine counts of receipt child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography. Along with his 204 months in prison sentence, he will also have 15 years of supervised release on top of that.
