Less than 48 hours after the conviction of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd the funeral for 20-year-old Daunte Wright will take place this afternoon.
Hundreds of people paid their respects to Wright in a public viewing Wednesday at Shiloh Temple International Ministries before today’s service.
Rev. Al Sharpton is set to eulogize Wright who also made remarks at the funeral for George Floyd last year. His family and Ben Crump, the civil rights attorney who also represented the family for George Floyd are also set to make remarks.
Wright was killed during a traffic stop April 11 after a brief struggle when former Officer Kim Potter shot at Wright allegedly mistaking her firearm for her taser. Potter has since been arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter in Wright’s death.
