Former officer Noor’s partner takes the stand at trial

The partner of the police officer who shot and killed an unarmed woman in July 2017 took the stand on Thursday.

Officer Matthew Harrity said in his testimony that he caught saw something to the left of the police SUV he was driving. After immediately drawing his gun, Harrity heard Noor fire his weapon, which would be the fateful shots at Justine Ruszczyk Damond that led to her death. Damond was a dual citizen of the United States and Australia who called the officers in the first place, reporting a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her home.

Noor’s defense team had argued that Noor was reacting a noise and feared an ambush when he opened fire.
