In the 61st Grammy Awards, female artists and the rap genre were the big winners. In Best New Artist nominations, there were six female artists up for the award. Five of the eight nominees for Album of the Year were also from female artists. First-time Grammy nominee, Kacey Musgraves took home four awards of her own. Her album “Golden Hour” won Country Album of the Year and Album of the Year. “Space Cowboy” took home Country Song of the Year, and “Butterflies” took home her fourth and final award for Country Solo Performance. Donald Glover, who’s stage name is Childish Gambino, took home four awards of his own, all with the same song. His hit song “This is America” won Song, Record, Music Video, and Rap Performance of the Year. Gambino became the first rapper to win Record and Song of the Year. Other notable award-winners include: Cardi B’s “Invasion of Privacy” (Rap Album of the Year), Drake’s “God’s Plan” (Rap Song of the Year), and Lady Gaga’s “Joanne” (Best Pop Solo Performance).
