Minnesota attorney general Lori Swanson filed a lawsuit Wednesday against a Florida charity. This came after the charity allegedly misled donors to believe they were donating to benefit families of fallen police officers.
The lawsuit claims American Federation of Police and concerned Citizens, Inc., collected donations totaling $425,000 from Minnesotans. However, Swanson claims only 9% actually went to the families. The donations were collected from Minnesotans from 2011 through 2017.
The charity has yet to comment on the accusations.
It was reported the charity raised $4 million last year in nationwide contributions that was spent on marketing, for-profit fundraisers, and salaries. they were also sued by Minnesota in 1996.
