New Safety Tool for SCSU Students

(UTVS) ST. CLOUD – College campuses across the country are always looking for more ways to keep their schools safe. At St. Cloud State University, public safety has released an app for your phone that includes many different features to help students feel more safe and also more connected while on their college campus. Director of St. Cloud State University Public Safety, Kevin Whitlock helped develop the new app called “Safe @ St. Cloud.”

“This app has been about 8-10 months in the making for us (SCSU)…” “…the app was established to basically to help provide students, to help empower them,” said Whitlock. “We’re one of about 30 universities with service now and it’s consistent with this age generation (the app concept) and it certainly falls in line with what it is our young people today are doing.” The application became available to students just about 3 weeks ago, with roughly 500 students enrolled. Whitlock is hoping that the app will become a useful tool for students on the St. Cloud State University campus to rely on when walking from class, during weather emergencies, etc.

“The fact that this is another tool that students can share information, to stay in tune with friends, to be able to reach out for help if needed, it’s right there at their fingertips,” said Whitlock.

The app is available via App Store and also Google Play located under “Safe@St.Cloud.”
