Accidental Weapon Discharge at Maplewood School

Harmony Learning Center in Maplewood, MN

Maplewood Police say nobody was harmed when a school liaison officer’s weapon fired unexpectedly at the Harmony Learning Center. According to Police Chief Scott Nadeau the officer was sitting on a bench and talking with multiple third and fourth-graders when a third grade boy sitting next to him put his finger into the officer’s holster and pushed on the trigger. The officer was wearing a standard security holster made to prevent accidental discharges, but the child’s finger was small enough to get past the trigger guard. Maplewood Police are investigating to prevent similar incidents in the future.
